Interview Questions Paper - 1

(1)stat the ohm's law???
Ans: The Ohm's law states that the ratio of potential difference(V) between any two point and the current flowing between them is constant if temperature is constant. This ratio is turned as resistance R.

(2)give equation of ohm's law??

Ans: V/I = constant = R Ohms.

(3)give one example of ohm's law??

Ans: we have a circuit with the potential of 1 volt, a current of 1 amp, and resistance of 1 ohm. ... The amount of water in the tank is defined as 1 volt and the “narrowness” (resistance to flow) of the hose is defined as 1 ohm.

(4)state the coulomb law??

Ans: The magnitude of the electrostatic force of attraction between two point charges is directly proportional to the product of the magnitudes of charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. The force is along the straight line joining them.

(5)give ohm's law limitation??

Ans: The Ohm's law is not applicable to any non-linear device as diode, transistor, zener diodes etc.

6) what is ordinary or commercial efficiency of transformer??

Ans: The commercial efficiency of a transformer is defined as the ratio of power output to power input in (watts or kilowatts)

7)what is distribution transformer??

Ans: Transformers used to stepdown the distribution voltage to a standard service voltage or from transmission voltage to distribution voltage are called distribution transformers.

8)define the all day efficiency of transformer??

Ans: The all-day efficiency is defined as the ratio of energy output in kwh to the input in kWh during the whole day.

9)give equation of all day efficiency of transformer??

Ans: Efficiency (all day)  = Output in kWh /Input in kWh for 24 hours

10)give commercial efficiency of transformer??

Ans: Commercial efficiency =  output in watts or kW / Input in watts or kW

11)how many and which  test for dc machine??

Ans:1) Direct method
2) Indirect method
3)Regenerative method

12)what is direct test??

Ans: In this method of testing, the de machine is loaded directly by means of mechanical brake coupled to the shaft of the machine. The efficiency of the machine is calculated directly by measuring the power input and output. The entire power output is wasted at the mechanical brake. Due to non-availability of large capacity loads for testing large machines in the laboratories, this method is used only for testing small de machines.

13)break test is example of which test??

Ans: direct test

14)Swinburne's test is simplest which type of test??

Ans: Indirect

15)what is indirect test??

Ans: In this method of testing, the losses are determined without actual loading of the machine. If the total losses in the machine are known, the efficiency can be calculated.

16)give one example of regenerative test of dc machine??

Ans: Hopkinson's test

17)What is a Thermal Power Plant??

Ans: A generating station which converts heat energy of coal combustion into electrical energy is known as a steam or thermal power station

18)Thermal Power Plant is suitable for ____????

Ans: This type of power station is suitable where coal and water are available in abundance and a large amount of electric power is to be generated.

19)What is function of super heater in thermal power plant??

Ans: The steam produced in the boiler is wet and is passed through a super heater where it is dried and superheated (i.e., steam temperature increased above that of boiling point of water) by the flue gases on their way to chimney. Superheating provides two principal benefits. Firstly, the overall efficiency is increased. Secondly, too much condensation in the last stages of turbine (which would cause blade corrosion is avoided. The superb eared steam from the super hearer is fed to steam turbine through the main valve.

20) What is work of economizer in thermal power plant??

Ans: An economizer is essentially a feed water heater and derives heat from the flue gases for this purpose. The feed water is fed to the economizer before supplying to the boiler The economizer extracts a part of heat of flue gases to increase the feed water temperature.

21)Which type And Why cooling arrangement are required in thermal power plant??
Ans:  In order to improve the efficiency of the plant, the steam exhausted from the turbine is condensed by means of a condenser. Water is drawn from a natural source of supply such as a river, canal or lake and is circulated through the condenser. The circulating water takes up the heat of the exhausted steam and itself becomes hot. This hot water coming out from the condenser is discharged at a suitable location down the river. In case the availability of water from the source of supply is not assured throughout the year, cooling towers are used. During the scarcity of water in the river, hot water from the condenser is passed on to the cooling towers where it is cooled. The cold water from the cooling tower is reused in the condenser.

22)What is hydro power plant???
Ans: A generating station which utilizes the potential energy of water at a high level for the generation of electrical energy is known as a hydro-electric power station.

23) What is turbine???

Ans : The turbine drives the alternator which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.

24)What is function of dam in hydro power plant??
Ans : A dam is a barrier which stores water and creates water head. Dams are built of concrete or stone masonry, earth or rock fill. The type and arrangement depends upon the topography of the site. A masonry dam may be built in a narrow canyon. An earth dam may be best suited for a wide valley. The type of dam also depends upon the foundation conditions, local materials and transportation available, occurrence of earthquakes and other hazards. At most of sites, more than one type of dam may be suitable and the one which is most economical is chosen.

25)What is spillways in hydro power plant???
Ans : There are times when the river flow exceeds the storage capacity of the reservoir. Such a situation arises during heavy rainfall in the catchment area. In order to discharge the surplus water from the storage reservoir into the river on the down-stream side of the dam, spillways are used. Spillways are constructed of concrete piers on the top of the dam. Gates are provided between these piers and surplus water is discharged over the crest of the dam by opening these gates.

26)What is the function of surge tank??
Ans : Open conduits leading water to the turbine require no protection. However, when closed conduits are used, protection becomes necessary to limit the abnormal pressure in the conduit. For this reason, closed conduits are always provided with a surge tank. A surge tank is a small reservoir or tank (open at the top) in which water level rises or falls to reduce the pressure swings in the conduit.

27) What is function of penstock???
Ans : Penstocks are open or closed conduits which carry water to the turbines. They are generally made of reinforced concrete or steel. Concrete penstocks are suitable for low heads (< 30 m) as greater pressure causes rapid deterioration of concrete. The steel penstocks can be designed for any head; the thickness of the penstock increases with the head or working pressure.

28)What is impulse turbine And where is use its in hydro power plant??
Ans :  Such turbines are used for high heads. In an impulse turbine, the entire pressure of water is converted into kinetic energy in a nozzle and the velocity of the jet drives the wheel.

29)Give the types of reaction turbine???
Ans : The important types of reaction turbines are :
(a) Francis turbines
(b) Kaplan turbines

30)Which type of electric equipment are used in hydro power plant???
Ans : The electrical equipment of a hydro-electric power station includes alternators, transformers, circuit breakers and other switching and protective devices.
