CONSTRUCTION OF THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR

CONSTRUCTION OF THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR

3 phase induction motor is the most common and popular type of ac motor which is most commonly used in work

Induction motor is used everywhere from small industry to a big industry.

CONSTRUCTION OF THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR

Three phase induction motor can be divided in two parts:

1. Stator

2. Rotor

These both parts are described below in detail:

1. Stator

Stator is the stationary part of motor which carries the three phase winding.

The stator and rotor are both separate by a small air-gap. Which range of length is 0.4 mm to 4 mm and which is depends on the power of the motor.

Stator consists steel frame which is enclosed by hollow cylinder core and which is made of thin laminated silicon steel to reduce eddy current and hysteresis losses.

The number of slots are mounted on the inner periphery of the lamination.

Insulated conductors are connected with balanced 3 phase star or delta connected circuit.

Stator of the induction motor

Above figure shows the construction of stator of three phase induction motor.

The speed of the motor is depends on the number of poles in the motor.

We can vary the speed of motor by changing the number of poles in stator winding.

When the three phase supply is applied to the stator winding then the rotating magnetic field is produced and which magnitude is constant.

Here the current is induced due to rotating magnetic field by principle of electromagnetic induction so we can called that this motor is induction motor.

2. Rotor

Rotor is the rotating part of the motor which is directly connected with the load through shaft.

The core of the rotor is laminated and made of
cast iron. The stator is placed inside the stator.

The shape of the rotor is cylindrical and slots is provided on it's periphery. Conductor is placed in the rotor slots.

Rotor used in induction motor is...

1. Slip ring type rotor

2. Squirrel cage type rotor
